HAM Highlights in 5 1/2 years!

Yesterday (July 9, 2017) marked 5 and 1/2 years since Hope Alive Ministry (HAM) was created. We have accomplished a lot in 5 and 1/2 years. 

Here are some highlights:

January 9, 2012: HAM’s FB page was created by our Founder, Bayley Paharik.

January 2013- April 2013: Honored children who passed away during that timeframe by posting their names on a Facebook event page. 

July 9, 2013: Hosted an online party via our Facebook page in honor of our 1 and 1/2 year anniversary of our Facebook page where we posted games like “Name This Tune”, “Bible Trivia”, etc. along with inspirational pictures/edits, music, and a video someone made about our mission. 

February 28, 2014: Hosted our 1st annual online Rare Disease Day Event via a Facebook event where we invited participants to post facts on rare diseases, inspirational music, pictures about rare diseases, acrostic poems with adjectives describing courageous children they follow, and honored children who passed away from a rare/undiagnosed disease.

January 9, 2014 – March 22, 2014: Hosted an online book club via this blog where we read 3 books; one book per month and then participated in an online discussion on the blog

November 21, 2014 and November 22, 2014: Organized our first in-person community event where we wrapped 50 shoeboxes filled with small toys, playing cards, fuzzy slipper socks, homemade cards and other fun items for the families staying at Ronald McDonald House of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as part of a project with the social work club, “Project Hope” at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. 

January 2015: Launched our “Hope in Art” project in honor of our 2nd anniversary of our Facebook page by sharing artwork from children on what hope meant to them on our FB page.

January 15, 2015: Featured in Catholic Accent – Greensburg, Pennsylvania Catholic Diocesan newspaper.

February 28, 2015: Hosted our 2nd annual Rare Disease Day Event through a Facebook event where we invited participants to post facts on rare diseases, inspirational music, pictures about rare diseases, acrostic poems with adjectives describing courageous children they follow, and first names of children who passed from a rare/undiagnosed disease.

September 12, 2015: Hosted our 1st “Wings of Hope: A Childhood Cancer Awareness Event” held at Saint Vincent Basilica Parish in Latrobe, Pennsylvania in their Assembly Room. We released butterflies and made cards for children with cancer (All cards were sent to Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, FL). We also awarded the Thinking of Nikki Foundation with our 1st “Wings of Hope Award” and collected donations for “Joy Jars” – a project of the Jessie Rees Foundation. “Joy Jars”are filled with small toys and other fun items and are sent to children battling cancer around the world. 

December 5, 2015: Featured on the “Parker J Cole Show“, an online radio talk show discussing Hope Alive Ministry. 

January 9, 2016: Hosted an online party via a Facebook event page to celebrate our 4th anniversary of our Facebook page where we had people post favorite memories of Hope Alive Ministry (HAM), favorite parts of HAM, suggestions for HAM, Q&A for HAM and encouraging words to families we support (e.g families facing life-threatening or chronic illnesses).

February 16-February 23, 2016: Organized a Leukodystrophy Awareness Slideshow – Social Media Campaign that encouraged people to share our Leukodystrophy Awareness Slideshow by joining our online Facebook event in order to raise awareness about Leukodystrophies.

February 29, 2016: Hosted our 3rd annual Rare Disease Day Event through a Facebook event where we invited participants to post facts on rare diseases, inspirational music, pictures about rare diseases, acrostic poems with adjectives describing courageous children they follow, and first names of children who passed from a rare/undiagnosed disease.

January 5, 2017: Featured on the “Parker J Cole Show”, an online radio talk show for the 2nd time. Click here to listen to the interview.

January 9 – January 30, 2017: Organized art supply drive to celebrate our 5th anniversary of our Facebook page where we collected art supplies for Ronald McDonald House of Pittsburgh

February 28, 2017: Hosted our 4th annual Rare Disease Day Event through a Facebook event where we invited participants to post facts on rare diseases, inspirational music, pictures about rare diseases, acrostic poems with adjectives describing courageous children they follow, honored children who passed away from a rare/undiagnosed disease and a Giveaway with items from Global Genes – a rare disease advocacy organization and Hope Alive Ministry t-shirts and items we donated.

We currently are in the process of becoming a non-profit organization. 

Right now, we are asking for people to make homemade cards to send to us for us to send to children and their families at Ronald McDonald House of Pittsburgh and Ronald McDonald House of St. Louis – location nearby St. Louis Children’s Hospital. More details here
