Ten Ways to Relieve Stress This Holiday Season by Janis I. Soucie


This holiday season is a rush to get decorations up, cards mailed out, Christmas dinner planned, guests invited, ect. There is just so much to do. It’s so easy to get caught up in it all. But how do you deal with the stress that builds up during the holidays? Here are some ways to help you relieve stress:

  • Slow down – give yourself plenty of time to get things done so you don’t have to rush around and can enjoy the holiday season instead of dreading it.

  • Give yourself plenty of time between tasks to just rest and take a break. Relax before you move one to the next task.

  • Exercise – Remember to exercise. It’s not just another thing you have to do. Exercise can help ease stress and increase stamina so you have energy to run those errands. Just going for a walk can do wonders.

  • Do something relaxing like take a bath, go for a walk, listen to meditation music

  • Call a friend and just have a good chat

  • Remember to breathe! Stress can cause us to take short shallow breaths which can leave us feeling more agitated. Take deep, regular breaths as you’re out and about.

  • Plan ahead as much as you can so you can give yourself time and space to implement the above ideas.
