The Art of Listening

Listening doesn’t always come easily, but God calls each of us to listen. We sometimes think we are listening when in reality we’re only listening to what we want to hear.

Listening is something that needs to be learned and can take time to improve on.

I think in order to be a better listener we need to understand exactly what is listening.

What does listening mean to you?

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, listening is “to pay attention to someone or something in order to hear what is being said, sung, played, etc.”

But I disagree. While listening is paying attention to someone it is so much more than that. To me listening is taking the time to hear and not just hear what someone is saying, but look at them in the eye while they are saying it. Listening is also not always giving advice, but asking the person questions to clarify what they are saying.

What does the Bible say about listening?

I pray for each of you to be a better listener and for you to reach other people through God.
