Can a Parent be a Hero?

Parents across the world often do not think of themselves as heroes, but I say that you are. You say that you are only doing what you are supposed to do, but I say you are doing more. You are not only caring for your child’s needs, but you are living each day to its fullest. No, you are not perfect, but you are willing to try. That to me is a hero.

Yes, lots of people who are not parents never give up, but you truly want what is best for your child. Isn’t that what a parent is supposed to be? Of course, but just by being your child’s biggest advocate you are their hero.

A child does not expect you to be perfect. Just playing with them and for them while they can no longer play themselves make you their hero. Smiling when your child is receiving multiple blood transfusions is not easy. Making your child laugh when they are receiving the toxic chemo therapy drugs is very difficult. However, that is what makes you a hero.

Today it is okay to be called a hero. Today, you are allowed to wear a cape.

Mommies and daddies need to feel like they are a hero too. Know that you are a hero no matter if you are a single parent, a military family, a nurse, a teacher, a lawyer, a stay-at-home mom or dad. You are a hero just  by being you.

Parents: If you believe you  a hero, then you are. If you do not consider yourself a hero, you are one.

You are amazing in your child’s eyes and my eyes. You are a hero too!

Never give up hope!
